Dryer Vent Inspection
Know exactly what's inside your duct. We run a camera the full length, measure airflow, and send a written report with photos. Perfect for home purchases, insurance documentation and condo associations.
Quick answer
A dryer vent inspection includes a camera pass through the full duct, an airflow velocity reading at the exterior cap, a check for improper materials like vinyl flex duct or screens, and a written photo report. Clear Vent offers it as a $29 add-on to any cleaning, with before/after cap photos included free on every job.
What the report covers
- Duct material and whether it meets code (rigid metal, taped joints, no screws)
- Total developed length and number of elbows
- Airflow velocity before and after cleaning
- Condition of transition hose and exterior cap
- Disconnected joints, crush points, nests or moisture damage
- Photos of the cap and interior duct
Who asks for inspections
Home buyers after a general inspection flagged lint at the cap, sellers who want a clean report in the disclosure packet, landlords documenting maintenance, and condo associations verifying unit compliance. Insurance adjusters have also asked customers for proof of maintenance after a claim.

Dryer Vent Inspection: your questions
What happens during a dryer vent cleaning appointment?
We confirm the vent exit, pull the dryer out and disconnect the transition hose, attach a high-powered vacuum, and run a rotating brush through the full duct length. We clear the exterior cap, reconnect the hose, test airflow before and after, and show you the lint we removed.
How do you measure airflow?
We use an anemometer at the exterior cap or a manometer at the dryer. A healthy 4-inch dryer vent moves exhaust at roughly 1,200–1,800 feet per minute; a restricted one may be under 500. We note the before and after numbers on your receipt.
Will you move my dryer?
Yes, we slide it out to reach the connection and slide it back when we're done. If the dryer is stacked or in a very tight closet we may clean from the exterior instead.
Do you need access to the inside of my home?
Yes for a complete job. Cleaning only from outside can push lint back toward the dryer. We need about 3 feet of space in front of the dryer.
What tools do you use for dryer vent cleaning?
A rotary brush system with flexible rods that reach 35+ feet, a HEPA-filtered vacuum, a reverse-airflow line for stubborn plugs, a camera for inspection, and an airflow meter. We don't use leaf blowers or compressed air alone, which just redistribute lint.
Do you take before and after photos?
We photograph the exterior cap before and after on every job and include them in your emailed receipt. A full camera inspection with interior duct photos is an optional $29 add-on.
Do you check for disconnected or crushed duct?
Yes. A disconnected joint behind a wall or a crushed transition hose is common. We spot it from airflow readings and camera inspection and show you before quoting any repair.
What happens if you can't clear the clog?
In rare cases of a collapsed or disconnected duct inside a wall we cannot fully clear it. You pay nothing for the cleaning and we give you a written description of the issue for an HVAC contractor.
Are your technicians insured?
Yes. We carry general liability insurance and can provide a certificate on request for condo associations and property managers.
Do you clean the vent cover outside?
Yes, every time. We remove lint from the louvers or flapper, remove any illegal screen, and make sure the damper swings freely.
Should I get the dryer vent cleaned when buying a house?
Yes. Home inspectors note lint at the cap but rarely inspect the full duct. A cleaning and inspection before move-in catches disconnected duct, flex hose, and nests left by the previous owner.
Does a clean dryer vent help sell a house?
It is a small, cheap item that removes an inspection flag and signals a well-maintained home. Sellers often book us the week before listing photos.
